The federal government has pass legislation over the years that helps debtors to achieve a measure of credit repair. Here are a few of the ways in which government regulations and laws can help those who find a debt load to be too heavy.

A person has the right under the laws to challenge inaccurate items on a bureau report. The burden of proof is up to the creditor when there are disputed items. This means that many inaccuracies will be removed within 30 to 60 days.

A debtor can add information to a bureau report that explains or challenges an entry. This statement may explain circumstances or include information that those reviewing the report would not otherwise see. The combination of removing inaccurate information and challenging or explaining other entries can vastly improve a score.

It is important to do credit repair and to maintain the accuracy and relevancy of your reports. This information affects your financial status. It could also impact your ability to get a loan, buy a home or find a job. Keeping details accurate and timely will help to prevent the risk of identity theft.
